Alien Arms

I was talking with our friend, Heather, about fetal development, and I tried to look up something I didn't know. I went to the Mayo Clinic website and was looking at their site for 14 week fetal development (14 weeks on Thursday!!), and I found this interesting tid-bit:

"Fourteen weeks into your pregnancy, or 12 weeks after conception, your baby's arms have almost reached the length they'll be at birth."

Are you kidding me?! The baby will only be about 3.5 inches during the 14th week, and yet his/her arms will be longer than the body? Is that even possible? Come on, Mayo Clinic.

  1. What were they drinking when they wrote that? Do you think they meant if you measure in proportion to the size if the baby now? His/her arms will be just as long as proportioned to the size of the body now? Im drinking your dad's wine while I'm writing this, so now I sound like the Mayo Clinic.. I don't understand that comment either, but in looking at this pic, the baby's arms look long enough in proportion to the size of the "existing" body.. Any longer and it would be a monkey!!! just kidding.. How are you feeling? Cant wait to see you and aaron.. Your aunt lynn said she is working with a girl who is pregnant and its amazing to see the changes each day, but I told her it is completely opposite with you, since we don't see you every day, you will look very different when we see you!! Take care of yourself and see you in a couple weeks.
